CODA Farmecul Tăcerii Foundation carries out projects dedicated to promoting the Romanian Sign Language (RSL) and raising awareness about the Deaf community.
One such project was recently organized for children from the Rio Kindergarten in Bucharest, offering them an interactive lesson of RSL designed to develop empathy and open their horizons to diversity and plurilingualism.
A step towards inclusive education
The initiative was all the more relevant as the participating kindergarten already has a deaf child integrated in the collective. The activity was designed to contribute to:
- Raising awareness of the existence of Deaf children;
- Increasing the mother tongue proficiency of Deaf children;
- Creating an inclusive educational environment;
- Promoting diversity and empathy.
An interactive and educational lesson
The lecture was given by Marinela Axinte, psychologist and Deaf person, in collaboration with Monica Cătuțoiu, CODA (hearing child of Deaf parents). This included:
- Visual exercises for learning basic signs;
- Use visual materials such as animal cards;
- Interactive activities to stimulate children’s curiosity.
Active participation of the little ones
The audience was made up of about 40 children, divided into age groups: small group (3-4 years) and medium and large group (4-6 years). The children were very receptive, showing an increased interest in learning sign and alternative communication.
This initiative demonstrates that inclusive education is possible and beneficial for all children, developing empathy and acceptance of diversity from an early age.
CODA Farmecul Tăcerii Foundation will continue to organize such activities in order to support the integration of the Deaf community and to make the Romanian Sign Language more accessible in society. Through such projects, we ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and develop in an inclusive and friendly environment.
